Shark Helmet Size Guide

Not sure which size Shark motorcycle helmet you need? Measure your head circumference in centimetres, approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears. Then compare your measurement with the Shark helmet size chart below. Sizing can vary between models, so always check the chart for the particular helmet you're considering.

Shark helmets are available in several different ranges, and not every model uses exactly the same sizing. Find your helmet in the relevant group below and use the measurements as a starting point.

How to Measure Your Head for a Shark Helmet

You'll need a flexible tape measure, preferably the type used for sewing. If you haven't got one, use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler afterwards.

  1. Position the tape: Place it approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows, passing just above your ears and around the back of your head.
  2. Keep it level: Make sure the tape sits flat against your head without being pulled too tightly.
  3. Measure the circumference: Record the measurement in centimetres.
  4. Check again: Repeat the measurement two or three times to make sure it's accurate.
  5. Find your size: Compare your measurement with the relevant Shark helmet size chart above.

If possible, ask someone to help you measure. It's surprisingly easy to position the tape incorrectly when doing it yourself.

How Should a Shark Motorcycle Helmet Fit?

A correctly fitted Shark helmet should feel firm around your head and cheeks without causing pain. It should move with your head rather than sliding around independently.

  • Forehead: The lining should make even contact without creating painful pressure points.
  • Cheeks: The cheek pads should feel snug. Your cheeks should move slightly when you rotate the helmet.
  • Crown: There shouldn't be noticeable gaps between your head and the lining.
  • Movement: With the chin strap fastened, gently move the helmet from side to side and up and down. It should remain secure.

Remember that two helmets labelled Medium won't necessarily fit the same way. The internal shape and padding can vary between Shark models.

What If You're Between Two Shark Helmet Sizes?

If your head measurement falls between two sizes, try both where possible. A motorcycle helmet should fit snugly without painful pressure points.

The comfort padding will settle slightly with use, but the protective EPS liner isn't designed to compress to accommodate an incorrectly sized helmet.

Don't automatically choose the larger helmet simply because it feels more comfortable when you first put it on. Equally, don't force yourself into a helmet that's painfully tight.

How Do You Know If a Shark Helmet Is Too Big?

A helmet may be too large if it slides onto your head with very little resistance, moves independently of your head or feels loose around the cheeks and crown.

If it already feels loose when new, remember that the comfort padding may settle further over time.

How Do You Know If a Shark Helmet Is Too Small?

A helmet that's too small may cause painful pressure around your forehead, temples or the sides of your head.

Some initial firmness is normal, especially around the cheek pads, but persistent discomfort isn't something you should simply put up with.

Can You Wear Glasses With a Shark Helmet?

Many Shark motorcycle helmets can accommodate spectacles, although the fit depends on the model, your glasses and your head shape.

Try the helmet with your normal glasses whenever possible and check that the arms don't create uncomfortable pressure around your temples.

Shark Helmet Sizing FAQs

Are Shark motorcycle helmets true to size?

Shark helmets follow the manufacturer's published sizing charts, but the fit can vary between models and individual head shapes. Always use the measurements as a starting point rather than a guarantee of fit.

What size Shark helmet do I need for a 58 cm head?

According to the size charts above, a head circumference of 58 cm corresponds to a Medium in the listed Shark helmet ranges. You should still try the helmet on to check the fit.

Should a new Shark helmet feel tight?

A new Shark helmet should feel snug and secure, particularly around the cheeks, but it shouldn't cause pain or uncomfortable pressure points.

Do Shark helmets loosen over time?

The comfort padding can compress slightly with use, but the protective EPS liner shouldn't be expected to change shape to accommodate your head.

Do all Shark helmets fit the same?

Not necessarily. Different Shark helmet models may have different internal shapes, padding arrangements and available sizes. Always check the relevant chart and try the helmet on where possible.
