Kids need proper motorcycle protection just as much as adults do, and ordinary jeans or tracksuit bottoms aren't designed for what can happen in a slide.
Our range of kids motorcycle trousers and jeans is designed specifically for younger riders and pillion passengers, with child-specific sizing, protective materials and armour positioned for smaller bodies.
At RaceLeathers, you'll find junior motorcycle trousers and protective jeans from brands including Duchinni and Richa, with options for road riding, pillion use and everyday motorcycle wear.
Kids Motorcycle Trousers That Actually Fit
Fit matters with children's motorcycle clothing.
It can be tempting to buy motorcycle trousers several sizes too large because “they'll grow into them”, but protective clothing needs to work properly now.
If trousers are much too big, the knee and hip protection may not remain over the areas it's supposed to protect.
A good pair of junior motorcycle trousers should:
- Fit securely around the waist
- Allow comfortable movement on the motorcycle
- Keep knee armour positioned over the knees
- Avoid excessive loose material around the legs
- Work properly with the child's motorcycle boots
- Remain comfortable when sitting in a riding or pillion position
Children grow quickly, so some adjustment is useful. That doesn't mean starting with trousers that are hanging off them.
Kids Motorcycle Jeans
For younger riders who prefer something that looks more like normal clothing, kids motorcycle jeans are a useful alternative to traditional textile trousers.
Motorcycle-specific jeans may look similar to ordinary denim, but they're designed with riding protection in mind.
For example, the Duchinni Tundra Kids Jeans in our range use a child-specific fit, heavy stretch denim, an aramid fibre lining and removable knee and hip armour.
That makes them a much more appropriate choice for motorcycle use than simply putting a child in a normal pair of fashion jeans.
They're particularly useful for road pillions and young riders who want protective clothing that doesn't look like full touring kit once they're off the bike.
Junior Textile Motorcycle Trousers
Textile junior motorcycle trousers make sense when weather protection and versatility are more important.
Depending on the model, textile trousers can provide features such as:
- Protective knee armour
- Hip protection or provision for it
- Abrasion-resistant outer materials
- Weather protection
- Adjustable waist and leg fit
- Reflective detailing
- Compatibility with matching motorcycle jackets
Always check the individual product specification because features vary between models.
Why Not Just Use Ordinary Jeans?
Normal denim is designed for everyday clothing.
Motorcycle trousers are designed around a completely different job.
Proper motorcycle jeans and trousers can combine stronger materials with impact protection around areas such as the knees and hips.
That becomes particularly important with children because the armour needs to remain correctly positioned rather than moving around inside oversized clothing.
You wouldn't put an adult on a motorcycle in unsuitable gear simply because the journey was short. The same logic applies to younger passengers and riders.
Getting the Knee Armour in the Right Place
This is one of the easiest things to check when trying children's motorcycle trousers.
With the child standing normally, look at where the knee protector sits.
Then get them to bend their knees or sit in something close to their normal riding position.
The armour should continue to cover the knee properly rather than ending up halfway down the shin or rotating around the side of the leg.
If it doesn't, try a different size or trouser.
The size printed on the label is much less important than where the protective equipment actually ends up.
Kids Motorcycle Trousers for Pillion Passengers
Proper motorcycle trousers aren't only for children riding their own bikes.
They're just as relevant for young pillion passengers.
A child sitting on the back of a motorcycle is exposed to the same road surface as the person sitting in front of them.
For road pillion use, we'd normally recommend a complete set of appropriately fitting motorcycle gear rather than concentrating only on the helmet.
That means:
- A properly fitting kids motorcycle helmet
- A protective kids motorcycle jacket
- Motorcycle trousers or protective jeans
- Proper motorcycle gloves
- Suitable motorcycle boots
Our Kids Motorcycle Clothing & Helmets: A Parent's Guide covers choosing the complete setup in more detail, including helmet fit, jackets, trousers, gloves, boots and UK pillion advice.
Kids Motorcycle Trousers for Growing Riders
We know the annoying bit: kids grow.
Sometimes remarkably quickly, usually about five minutes after you've bought them something.
But motorcycle clothing still needs to fit correctly.
Look for useful waist adjustment and check the manufacturer's size guide carefully, but don't buy such a large size that the protective armour is nowhere near the joint it's supposed to cover.
It's better to get proper use from correctly fitting protective clothing than several years from something that only starts fitting properly towards the end of its life.
Motorcycle Jeans or Textile Trousers for Kids?
Neither is automatically better. It depends on how they'll be used.
Motorcycle jeans are ideal if you want something casual and comfortable that can still provide motorcycle-specific protection.
Textile motorcycle trousers can make more sense for longer rides, touring and changeable British weather, particularly where the model includes weather protection or additional adjustment.
The important points are the same for both:
correct fit, suitable protection and armour in the right place.

Try Kids Motorcycle Trousers On at RaceLeathers
If you're unsure about sizing, bring them into RaceLeathers in Darwen, Lancashire.
We can help check the waist, leg length and, most importantly, where the knee and hip armour sits once the child is moving and sitting in a riding position.
We can also help match trousers with suitable children's motorcycle jackets, helmets and other riding equipment.
Because with kids motorcycle gear, buying the right size is much more useful than buying the size you hope they'll eventually become.
Kids Motorcycle Trousers FAQs
Do children need motorcycle trousers?
We recommend proper motorcycle trousers or protective motorcycle jeans for young riders and pillion passengers. Ordinary trousers aren't designed to provide the same abrasion resistance or hold protective armour over areas such as the knees and hips.
Are kids motorcycle jeans different from normal jeans?
Yes. Motorcycle-specific jeans can use stronger construction, abrasion-resistant reinforcement and impact armour while retaining the appearance and comfort of everyday denim.
Should I buy children's motorcycle trousers a size bigger?
Don't deliberately buy them excessively oversized. A little adjustment or growing room may be practical, but the trousers still need to hold their protective armour correctly over the knees and hips now.
Where should the knee armour sit?
The protector should cover the knee properly when the child is in a riding position. If it drops onto the shin, rotates away from the knee or moves around excessively, the trouser fit or armour position needs adjusting.
Are motorcycle jeans suitable for a child pillion?
Properly fitting motorcycle jeans designed with abrasion protection and impact armour can be a practical option for a young road pillion. Check the specification of the exact jeans and make sure the armour sits correctly.
Are textile trousers better for winter riding?
They can be. Depending on the model, textile motorcycle trousers may provide better wind, rain and cold-weather protection than riding jeans. Always check the individual product specification rather than assuming every textile trouser is waterproof or thermal.
