Nolan Motorcycle Helmet Size Guide

Not sure what size Nolan motorcycle helmet you need? Measure your head circumference approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows, then check the relevant Nolan helmet size chart below. Different Nolan models can have slightly different sizing measurements, particularly in the larger sizes, so it's important to identify your helmet model before choosing a size.

This guide covers 21 Nolan helmet models, including the N100-6, N120-1, N90-3, N80-8, N60-6, N21 and several X-series helmets. The charts show reference head measurements in centimetres to help you find your starting size.

Nolan Motorcycle Helmet Size Charts by Model

Nolan helmets don't all use identical sizing measurements. We've divided the models into three groups to make it easier to find the right information.

Important: The measurements below are size reference values, not complete fitting ranges. Your exact head measurement may fall between the figures shown. Always check the manufacturer's guidance for your particular model and try the helmet on where possible.

Nolan Size Chart - Group 1

This sizing chart applies to the following Nolan helmet models:

  • Nolan N100-6
  • Nolan N120-1
  • Nolan N80-8
  • Nolan N60-6
  • Nolan N60-6 Sport
  • Nolan X-1005 Ultra Carbon

Nolan Size Chart - Group 2

The following Nolan helmets use a slightly different size reference, particularly at XXL.

This chart applies to:

  • Nolan N90-3
  • Nolan N70-2 X
  • Nolan N70-2 GT
  • Nolan N40-5
  • Nolan N40-5 GT
  • Nolan N30-4 T

M 58 cm
L 60 cm
XL 62 cm
XXL / 2XL 63 cm

Notice that XXL has a reference measurement of 63 cm in this group, compared with 64 cm in Group 1. That's why it's worth checking the chart for your exact Nolan model.

Nolan N21 and N21 Visor Size Chart - Group 3

The Nolan N21 and N21 Visor use a different XL reference measurement from the other Nolan models listed above.

This chart applies to:

  • Nolan N21
  • Nolan N21 Visor
Helmet Size Head Measurement
XXS 54 cm
XS 55 cm
S 56 cm
M 58 cm
L 60 cm
XL 61 cm

Model-specific reference measurements are based on published Nolan sizing information compiled by Strath Moto. Nolan's European website also publishes general sizing ranges. If the figures differ, follow the current manufacturer's guidance for your exact helmet.

Why Do Nolan Helmet Sizes Differ Between Models?

Although many Nolan motorcycle helmets use similar sizing measurements, there can be small differences between models.

These differences are particularly noticeable in the larger sizes. For example, the Nolan N100-6 uses an XXL reference measurement of 64 cm, while the N90-3 uses 63 cm. The Nolan N21 also has a different XL measurement from many other models.

Helmet shell construction, internal shape and comfort padding can affect the fit too. This means a Large in one Nolan helmet won't necessarily feel identical to a Large in another.

Always check the sizing information for your particular Nolan model before ordering. The charts are a useful starting point, but the correct fit matters more than the letter on the label.

How to Measure Your Head for a Nolan Helmet

You'll need a flexible tape measure, preferably the type used for sewing. If you haven't got one, a piece of string and a ruler will do the job.

  1. Position the tape: Wrap it around the widest part of your head, approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears.
  2. Keep it level: Make sure the tape sits flat against your head without pulling it excessively tight.
  3. Measure your head: Record the circumference in centimetres.
  4. Check again: Repeat the measurement two or three times to make sure it's accurate.
  5. Find your helmet model: Identify the correct Nolan sizing group above.
  6. Choose your starting size: Compare your measurement with the chart, then try the helmet on to confirm the fit.

If possible, ask someone to help you measure. It's surprisingly easy to position the tape incorrectly when doing it yourself.

How Should a Nolan Motorcycle Helmet Fit?

A properly fitted Nolan motorcycle helmet should feel snug and secure without causing painful pressure points. It should move with your head rather than sliding around independently.

  • Forehead and temples: The internal lining should make firm, even contact without creating painful pressure.
  • Cheeks: The cheek pads should feel snug against your face.
  • Crown: There shouldn't be noticeable gaps between your head and the lining.
  • Movement: With the chin strap correctly fastened, gently move the helmet from side to side and up and down. It should remain secure.
  • Comfort: Wear the helmet indoors for a while to check whether uncomfortable pressure develops.

A helmet that's already loose when new isn't a good starting point, because the comfort padding may settle further with use.

What If You're Between Two Nolan Helmet Sizes?

If your head measurement falls between the published reference measurements, check Nolan's current fitting ranges for your particular model and try neighbouring sizes where possible.

For example, Nolan's general European sizing guide lists Medium as 57–58 cm and Large as 59–60 cm. The model-specific reference measurements above use 58 cm and 60 cm respectively.

The correct size is the helmet that fits securely without painful pressure points or excessive movement.

Don't automatically choose a larger helmet simply because it feels more comfortable when first tried on. Equally, don't force yourself into a helmet that's painfully tight.

How Do You Know If a Nolan Helmet Is Too Big?

A Nolan helmet may be too large if it moves independently of your head, feels loose around the cheeks or slides on with very little resistance.

With the chin strap fastened, gently move the helmet forwards, backwards and from side to side. Excessive movement may indicate that the size or internal shape isn't suitable.

Remember that the comfort padding can settle slightly with use, so a loose new helmet may become even looser.

How Do You Know If a Nolan Helmet Is Too Small?

A helmet that's too small may cause painful pressure around your forehead, temples or the sides of your head.

Some initial firmness is normal, particularly around the cheek pads, but persistent discomfort isn't something you should simply put up with.

The comfort padding may settle slightly with use, but the protective EPS liner isn't designed to compress to accommodate an incorrectly sized helmet.

Can You Wear Glasses With a Nolan Helmet?

Many riders wear spectacles with their Nolan helmets, although comfort depends on the particular model, the shape of your glasses and your head.

Some Nolan helmets have features designed to accommodate spectacles, but you should always try the helmet with your normal glasses wherever possible.

Make sure the arms of your glasses don't create painful pressure around your temples and that your glasses remain correctly positioned.

Nolan Helmet Sizing FAQs

Are Nolan motorcycle helmets true to size?

Nolan publishes head circumference measurements for its helmet sizes, but some models use slightly different reference measurements. Always check the size chart for your particular model and try the helmet on where possible.

What size Nolan helmet do I need for a 58 cm head?

A 58 cm head circumference corresponds to Medium in all three model groups listed above. Always confirm the fit of the particular helmet.

What size Nolan helmet do I need for a 60 cm head?

A 60 cm head circumference corresponds to Large in the model-specific reference charts above.

What size Nolan helmet do I need for a 63 cm head?

It depends on the model. Group 2 helmets, including the N90-3 and N70-2 X, list XXL at 63 cm. Group 1 helmets list XXL at 64 cm, so check the manufacturer's current fitting range and try the helmet on before choosing.

Do all Nolan helmets fit the same?

No. Although many Nolan helmets share similar head measurements, the internal shape, padding and shell construction can vary between models.

Do Nolan helmets loosen over time?

The comfort padding may compress slightly with regular use, but the protective EPS impact liner shouldn't be expected to change shape to accommodate your head.

What if my Nolan helmet model isn't listed?

The charts above cover 21 Nolan models, including several older ranges. If your particular helmet isn't listed, check its manufacturer's manual or contact RaceLeathers for advice before choosing a size.
