MT Motorcycle Helmet Size Guide
Not sure what size MT motorcycle helmet you need? Measure around the widest part of your head, approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows, then compare your measurement with the MT helmet size charts below. Most adult MT helmets use the same head circumference measurements, although the internal shape and padding can differ between models.
Our guide covers MT full-face, flip-front, adventure, motocross, open-face and children's helmets. Models include the Targo S, Stinger 2, Braker SV, Thunder 4, Jarama SV, Atom 2 SV, Genesis R SV, Track SV, KRE and Stinger 2 Kids.
MT Motorcycle Helmet Size Charts
Important: The measurements below refer to head circumference in centimetres, not the outside dimensions of the helmet. Although MT uses a consistent general sizing system, not every model is produced in every size shown. Always check the fit of your particular helmet before riding.
MT Targo S, Stinger 2, Braker SV and Thunder 4 Size Chart
The following MT full-face motorcycle helmets use the manufacturer's standard adult sizing measurements:
- MT Targo S
- MT Stinger 2
- MT Braker SV
- MT Thunder 4 SV
- MT Thunder 4 R SV / Thunder 4R SV
- MT Jarama SV
- MT KRE+ S
- MT KRE 2 and KRE 2 Plus
| Helmet Size | Head Circumference |
|---|---|
| XXS | 51–52 cm |
| XS | 53–54 cm |
| S | 55–56 cm |
| M | 57–58 cm |
| L | 59–60 cm |
| XL | 61–62 cm |
| XXL / 2XL | 63–64 cm |
| XXXL / 3XL | 65–66 cm |
This is the standard MT adult sizing reference. The sizes available vary between models, so the table should not be treated as a list of sizes manufactured for every helmet.
For example, the MT Targo S is available in smaller sizes, while other MT helmets have their own size ranges. The actual head measurements remain consistent with the standard chart unless otherwise specified.
Even when two helmets have identical published measurements, their internal padding and shape can affect how they feel when worn.
MT Atom 2, Genesis and Streetfighter Flip-Front Helmet Size Chart
MT's modular and flip-front helmets use the standard adult head circumference measurements.
This chart covers the following models:
- MT Atom 2 / Atom 2 SV
- MT Genesis R SV
- MT Genesis SV
- MT Streetfighter SV S
| Helmet Size | Head Circumference |
|---|---|
| XXS | 51–52 cm |
| XS | 53–54 cm |
| S | 55–56 cm |
| M | 57–58 cm |
| L | 59–60 cm |
| XL | 61–62 cm |
| XXL / 2XL | 63–64 cm |
| XXXL / 3XL | 65–66 cm |
The MT Atom 2 SV and Genesis models are designed for riders who prefer the convenience of a flip-front helmet. Although they use the same general head measurements as MT's full-face helmets, their different shell construction and internal padding may affect the fit.
When trying on a modular helmet, make sure it fits correctly with the chin bar closed and the retaining strap properly fastened.
Don't assume that every flip-front helmet is approved for riding with the chin bar open. Always follow the approval markings and instructions for your particular model.
MT Open-Face, Adventure and Motocross Helmet Size Chart
MT also manufactures open-face, adventure and off-road helmets. These use the manufacturer's general adult sizing measurements as a starting reference.
Models include:
- MT Cosmo SV
- MT District SV
- MT Viale SV S
- MT Le Mans 2 SV
- MT Aeris
- MT Street S
- MT Track SV Adventure
- MT Falcon / Falcon S
| Helmet Size | Head Circumference |
|---|---|
| XXS | 51–52 cm |
| XS | 53–54 cm |
| S | 55–56 cm |
| M | 57–58 cm |
| L | 59–60 cm |
| XL | 61–62 cm |
| XXL / 2XL | 63–64 cm |
| XXXL / 3XL | 65–66 cm |
Not every model is manufactured in every size listed. Check your specific helmet before ordering.
Open-face helmets have different internal designs from full-face models, and motocross helmets must also fit correctly when worn with goggles.
Even if you've previously owned an MT full-face helmet, it's worth trying on your chosen open-face or off-road model rather than assuming the fit will be identical.
MT Stinger 2 Kids and MT Lite Youth Helmet Size Chart
MT manufactures separate children's motorcycle helmets, including the Stinger 2 Kids and Lite ranges.
These helmets use a youth sizing chart, which must not be confused with adult Small, Medium and Large.
| Youth Size | Head Circumference |
|---|---|
| YS / SY | 49–50 cm |
| YM / MY | 51–52 cm |
| YL / LY | 53–54 cm |
The Stinger 2 Kids is a youth full-face motorcycle helmet. The MT Lite is another helmet designed for younger riders.
Never buy a child's motorcycle helmet too large to allow room for growth. It needs to fit securely at the time it is worn.
Measure the child's head properly and check the fit rather than choosing a helmet purely by age.
Do All MT Motorcycle Helmets Fit the Same?
MT uses a consistent general sizing chart across its adult motorcycle helmet range. For example, Medium normally corresponds to 57–58 cm, Large to 59–60 cm and XL to 61–62 cm.
However, identical head measurements don't mean that every MT helmet will feel the same.
The Targo S, Thunder 4, Atom 2 and Track SV have different shell designs, intended uses and internal padding arrangements.
This can affect how firmly the helmet fits around your forehead, temples, cheeks and crown.
The correct size is the helmet that fits securely without painful pressure points or excessive movement. The size chart helps you find your starting point.
How to Measure Your Head for an MT Helmet
You'll need a flexible tape measure, preferably the type used for sewing. If you haven't got one, a piece of string and a ruler will do the job.
- Position the tape: Wrap it around the widest part of your head, approximately 2 cm above your eyebrows and just above your ears.
- Keep it level: Make sure it passes around the back of your head without slipping upwards or downwards.
- Measure carefully: Keep the tape snug against your head without pulling it excessively tight.
- Record your measurement: Write down the circumference in centimetres.
- Check again: Repeat the measurement two or three times to confirm the result.
- Find your size: Compare the measurement with the appropriate MT size chart above, then try on the helmet to confirm the fit.
If possible, ask someone to help you measure. It's surprisingly easy to position a tape measure incorrectly when doing it yourself.
How Should an MT Motorcycle Helmet Fit?
A properly fitted MT motorcycle helmet should feel snug and secure without causing painful pressure points. It should move with your head rather than sliding around independently.
- Forehead and temples: The lining should make firm, even contact without painful pressure.
- Cheeks: The cheek pads on full-face and flip-front models should feel snug against your face.
- Crown: There shouldn't be noticeable gaps between your head and the internal lining.
- Movement: With the chin strap correctly fastened, gently move the helmet from side to side and forwards and backwards. It should remain securely positioned.
- Comfort: Wear the helmet indoors for a while to check whether uncomfortable pressure develops.
Remember that a helmet that's already loose when new isn't a good starting point, because the internal comfort padding may settle further with use.
What If You're Between Two MT Helmet Sizes?
If your head measurement falls between two sizes, MT's general guidance recommends trying the larger size as a starting point.
However, that doesn't mean a larger helmet will always fit properly. The final decision must be based on how securely and comfortably the particular helmet fits your head.
Try neighbouring sizes where possible, especially if you're changing from one MT model to another.
Don't rely on the protective liner or comfort padding changing shape to correct an unsuitable helmet.
How Do You Know If an MT Helmet Is Too Big?
An MT helmet may be too large if it slides on with very little resistance, moves independently of your head or feels loose around the cheeks and forehead.
With the chin strap fastened, gently move the helmet from side to side and forwards and backwards. Excessive movement can indicate that the size or shape isn't suitable.
The comfort padding can compress slightly with use, so a helmet that's already loose when new may become even looser.
How Do You Know If an MT Helmet Is Too Small?
A helmet that's too small may cause painful pressure around your forehead, temples or the sides of your head.
Some initial firmness is normal, particularly around the cheek pads, but persistent discomfort isn't something you should simply put up with.
The comfort padding may settle slightly, but the protective EPS impact liner isn't designed to compress to accommodate an incorrectly sized helmet.
For more advice, read our guide to dealing with a tight motorcycle helmet.
Do MT Flip-Front Helmets Fit Differently?
MT manufactures modular and flip-front helmets such as the Atom 2 SV and Genesis ranges.
They generally follow MT's standard adult sizing measurements, but their internal design and construction may affect how they feel compared with a full-face helmet.
When trying on an MT flip-front helmet, check that it fits correctly with the chin bar closed and the retaining strap properly fastened.
The chin bar's opening mechanism doesn't compensate for an incorrectly sized helmet.
Can You Wear Glasses With an MT Motorcycle Helmet?
Many riders wear prescription glasses with their MT helmets, although comfort depends on the particular model, your glasses and your head shape.
Try the helmet with your normal glasses wherever possible. Make sure the arms don't create painful pressure around your temples and that your glasses remain correctly positioned.

The MT Targo S and Stinger 2 use the manufacturer's standard adult head measurements. However, their internal shapes and padding may affect how they fit.

MT's general adult chart includes 3XL at 65–66 cm. However, not every MT helmet is manufactured in this size, so check the particular model.
Do MT helmet liners loosen over time?

What if my MT helmet model isn't listed?
MT has manufactured numerous helmets over the years, including older Targo, Thunder, Revenge and Atom models. Check the original sizing information for your particular helmet if it isn't covered above.
