HJC Helmet Size Guide

Not sure what size HJC motorcycle helmet you need? Measure around the widest part of your head, approximately 2–2.5 cm above your eyebrows, then compare your measurement with the HJC helmet size chart below. Remember that HJC sizing can vary between models and shell designs, so always check the measurements for the particular helmet you're considering.

HJC Motorcycle Helmet Size Chart

The following HJC helmet size chart provides a general guide to head circumference measurements. HJC sizing can vary between helmet models and shell designs, which is why some sizes overlap. Always check the specific size chart for your chosen HJC helmet rather than relying solely on this general guide.

Helmet Size Head Circumference
3XS* 50–51 cm
2XS 52–53 cm
XS 54–55 cm
S 55–56 cm
M 57–58 cm
L 58–59 cm
XL 60–61 cm
2XL / XXL 62–63 cm
3XL / XXXL 64–65 cm
4XL 66–67 cm
5XL 68–69 cm

*The HJC C10 is available in 3XS as a youth size. Not every HJC helmet model is available in every size.

HJC Youth Motorcycle Helmet Size Chart

HJC also produces helmets designed specifically for younger riders. The following youth size chart applies to the HJC Y10 and Y50 models.

Youth Size Head Circumference
YS 48–49 cm
YM 50–51 cm
YL 52–53 cm
YXL 54–55 cm

These youth measurements apply to the HJC Y10 and Y50. Always check the size chart for the particular helmet model before ordering.

Why Do HJC Helmet Sizes Vary Between Models?

Unlike some motorcycle helmet manufacturers, HJC doesn't use exactly the same sizing measurements across every helmet model. Different HJC helmet ranges and shell designs can have slightly different size charts.

For example, a Small HJC helmet may be designed for a head circumference of 54–55 cm in one model, while another model may use 55–56 cm. The same applies to other sizes, which explains why some measurements overlap in the general HJC size chart.

This doesn't mean the sizing information is incorrect. It simply means that the correct HJC helmet size depends on the particular model you're buying, not just the letter printed on the label.

Always check the size chart for your chosen HJC helmet model before ordering. If possible, try the helmet on to make sure it fits securely without uncomfortable pressure points.

How to Measure Your Head for an HJC Helmet

You'll need a flexible tape measure, preferably the type used for sewing. If you don't have one, a piece of string and a ruler will do the job.

  1. Position the tape: Wrap it around the widest part of your head, approximately 2–2.5 cm above your eyebrows, passing just above your ears.
  2. Keep it level: Make sure the tape sits flat against your head without being pulled too tightly.
  3. Measure the circumference: Record the result in centimetres.
  4. Check again: Repeat the measurement two or three times to make sure it's accurate.
  5. Find your size: Compare your measurement with the relevant HJC helmet size chart above.

If possible, ask someone to help you measure. It's easy to position the tape incorrectly when you're doing it yourself.

How Should an HJC Motorcycle Helmet Fit?

A properly fitted HJC motorcycle helmet should feel snug and secure without causing painful pressure points. It should move with your head rather than sliding around independently.

  • Forehead and temples: The lining should make firm, even contact without creating uncomfortable pressure.
  • Cheeks: The cheek pads should feel snug against your face without causing pain.
  • Crown: There shouldn't be noticeable gaps between your head and the helmet's internal lining.
  • Movement: With the chin strap fastened, gently move the helmet from side to side and up and down. It should remain secure.
  • Comfort: Wear the helmet indoors for a while to check whether pressure points develop.

Different HJC helmet models can have different internal shapes and padding arrangements, so don't assume every HJC helmet will fit identically.

Why You Shouldn't Buy a Used Motorcycle Helmet

HJC advises against buying a second-hand helmet or borrowing someone else's helmet. Over time, the internal comfort padding can settle to the shape of the original wearer's head, which may affect how securely the helmet fits someone else.

There's also the possibility of damage that isn't immediately visible, particularly if the helmet has been involved in an impact.

For proper protection, choose a new helmet that fits your head correctly and meets the relevant motorcycle helmet safety standards.

How Do You Know If an HJC Helmet Is Too Big?

A helmet may be too large if it moves independently of your head, feels loose around the cheeks or slides on with very little resistance.

With the chin strap fastened, gently try moving the helmet forwards, backwards and from side to side. If it shifts excessively, the size or internal shape may not be suitable.

Remember that the comfort padding may settle further with use, so a helmet that's already loose when new isn't a good starting point.

How Do You Know If an HJC Helmet Is Too Small?

A helmet that's too small may cause painful pressure around the forehead, temples or sides of your head.

Some initial firmness is normal, particularly around the cheeks, but persistent discomfort isn't something you should simply put up with.

Can You Wear Glasses With an HJC Helmet?

Many riders wear spectacles with their HJC helmets, although comfort depends on the particular model, your glasses and your head shape.

Try the helmet with your usual glasses whenever possible. Check that the arms don't create uncomfortable pressure around your temples.

HJC Helmet Sizing FAQs

Are HJC motorcycle helmets true to size?

HJC helmet sizing varies between models and shell designs. Always check the size chart for the particular HJC helmet you're considering rather than assuming your usual size will be correct.

What size HJC helmet do I need for a 58 cm head?

A 58 cm head measurement may correspond to a Medium or Large HJC helmet, depending on the model and shell design. Check the size chart for the particular helmet and try it on where possible.

What size HJC helmet do I need for a 55 cm head?

A 55 cm head measurement may correspond to XS or Small, depending on the HJC model. Different helmet ranges can use slightly different measurements for the same letter size.

Should a new HJC helmet feel tight?

A new HJC helmet should feel snug and secure, particularly around the cheeks, but it shouldn't cause pain or uncomfortable pressure points.

Do HJC helmets loosen over time?

The comfort padding can compress slightly with use, but the protective EPS liner shouldn't be expected to change shape to accommodate your head.

Are HJC youth helmet sizes the same as adult sizes?

No. HJC provides a separate youth size chart for the Y10 and Y50 models. Always use the correct chart for the particular helmet rather than assuming adult and youth size labels are interchangeable.
