Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 V2 Size Guide

Not sure what size Alpinestars Tech-Air motorcycle airbag vest you need? Measure your chest and waist, then compare your measurements with the Tech-Air size charts below.

This guide focuses on the Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 V2 range, including the standard, Canvas, Leather and Stella women's airbag systems available at RaceLeathers.

Important: Choosing an airbag vest is different from choosing an ordinary motorcycle jacket. The system must fit your body correctly and, if worn underneath a jacket, there must be sufficient space for the airbag to inflate. Always follow the instructions supplied with your exact Tech-Air system.

Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 V2 Men's Size Chart

The following chart shows Alpinestars' published body measurements for the men's Tech-Air 3 V2 system.

It provides the starting sizes for the standard Tech-Air 3 V2, Canvas and Leather versions.

Airbag Vest Size Body Measurements
XS Chest: 83.5–89 cm
Waist: 69–75 cm
S Chest: 89–94.5 cm
Waist: 75–81 cm
M Chest: 94.5–100 cm
Waist: 81–87 cm
L Chest: 100–105.5 cm
Waist: 87–92 cm
XL Chest: 105.5–111 cm
Waist: 92–97 cm
2XL Chest: 111–116.5 cm
Waist: 97–102 cm
3XL Chest: 116.5–122 cm
Waist: 102–107 cm
4XL Chest: 122–127.5 cm
Waist: 107–112 cm

Example: If your chest measures 103 cm and your waist measures 90 cm, the chart suggests a Large Tech-Air 3 V2 as a starting point.

These measurements are taken directly from Alpinestars' Tech-Air 3 V2 body-size chart. They are not measurements taken over an existing motorcycle jacket.

Remember: The fit and length of the back protector must also be checked. Chest size alone does not guarantee the correct airbag size.

Alpinestars Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 Women's Size Chart

The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 is designed for women riders and uses a different sizing chart from the men's version.

Use your bust and waist measurements to find your starting size.

Stella Airbag Size Body Measurements
XS Bust: 78–84 cm
Waist: 58–64 cm
S Bust: 84–90 cm
Waist: 64–70 cm
M Bust: 90–94 cm
Waist: 70–74 cm
L Bust: 94–98.5 cm
Waist: 74–78.5 cm
XL Bust: 98.5–103 cm
Waist: 78.5–83 cm
2XL Bust: 103–108 cm
Waist: 83–88 cm

Example: If your bust measures 96 cm and your waist measures 76 cm, the Stella chart suggests Large as a starting size.

The Stella system has its own cut and dimensions. A Medium Stella airbag vest is not the same fit as a Medium men's Tech-Air 3 V2.

If your bust and waist measurements fall into different sizes, try the neighbouring sizes and check the position of the airbag and back protector before choosing.

Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 V2 — Sizing Over a Motorcycle Jacket

The Tech-Air 3 V2 can be worn over a suitable motorcycle jacket. In this case, the measurement around your body while wearing the jacket is different from your normal chest measurement.

If you plan to wear your Tech-Air 3 V2 over your motorcycle jacket, put the jacket on and fasten it before measuring around the fullest part of your chest.

The following additional sizing reference is for the men's Tech-Air 3 V2 worn over a jacket.

Tech-Air Size Chest Measured Over Jacket
XS 98–108 cm
S 104–114 cm
M 110–121 cm
L 116–128 cm
XL 122–134 cm
2XL 128–141 cm
3XL 134–148 cm
4XL 140–155 cm

Important: This is an over-jacket measurement reference, not a replacement for the manufacturer's body-size chart. The Tech-Air vest must still fit securely, and the elastic side panels must not already be excessively stretched when worn.

The men's over-jacket measurements should not be applied automatically to the Stella women's version.

Always check the fit and the sizing guidance for the exact Tech-Air vest and motorcycle jacket being worn together.

How to Measure Yourself for an Alpinestars Airbag Vest

You'll need a flexible tape measure. Ideally, ask someone to help you take the measurements.

  1. Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, keeping the tape horizontal.
  2. Bust: For Stella women's airbag systems, measure around the fullest part of your bust.
  3. Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, approximately level with your belly button.
  4. Back length: Measure from your waistline up your back to the highest point where your shoulder meets your neck. This waist-to-shoulder measurement is important for the back protector.
  5. Over-jacket use: If wearing the Tech-Air over a jacket, also measure around the outside of your fastened motorcycle jacket.
  6. Check your size: Compare the relevant measurements with the charts above and confirm the fit before riding.

Take your measurements twice to make sure they're correct.

How Should an Alpinestars Tech-Air Airbag Vest Fit?

An Alpinestars Tech-Air system should fit securely without excessive movement or uncomfortable pressure around your chest, shoulders or back.

When trying one on, check that:

  • The vest is correctly positioned on your torso.
  • The front fastening closes comfortably.
  • The back protector sits in the correct position and is suitable for your torso length.
  • The system doesn't move excessively when you lean forward or turn your upper body.
  • The side panels and other expansion areas aren't restricted.
  • You can comfortably reach your motorcycle's handlebars.
  • Any jacket worn over the system allows the required space for airbag deployment.

Don't choose an incorrectly sized airbag simply because it feels comfortable. The protective coverage and inflation space must be correct.

Can You Wear the Tech-Air 3 V2 Under a Motorcycle Jacket?

Yes, but only when the jacket and airbag system meet the manufacturer's compatibility and fitting requirements.

The Tech-Air 3 V2 manual specifies that sizes smaller than Small must not be worn underneath a protective outer riding garment. Those sizes must be worn over the protective jacket.

For permitted sizes worn underneath a jacket, the outer garment must have sufficient expansion room for the airbag to inflate.

Alpinestars Tech-Air Ready jackets are designed with suitable expansion arrangements, but you must still check that the particular jacket and airbag fit correctly together.

Some other motorcycle jackets may also be suitable if they meet the manufacturer's compatibility requirements.

Important: A non-stretch leather jacket without suitable expansion panels must not be used over an under-jacket Tech-Air 3 V2 system. Simply choosing a larger jacket doesn't automatically make it compatible.

Never assume that any motorcycle jacket will safely accommodate an airbag vest. Check the instructions supplied with both garments before use.

Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 V2, Canvas and Leather — Do They Fit the Same?

The standard Tech-Air 3 V2, Canvas and Leather versions use the same general men's sizing measurements, but their outer materials and construction differ.

The standard vest is designed for a lightweight, practical fit. The Canvas version has a different outer fabric, while the Leather version offers a more traditional appearance.

Although the size labels and published measurements are similar, the different materials can affect how each version feels when worn.

Try the particular version you intend to buy, preferably with your normal motorcycle jacket.

Is the Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 Different From the Men's Version?

Yes. The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 is designed for women riders and has its own body measurements and tailored cut.

Use the Stella sizing chart rather than assuming that a men's Small or Medium will provide the same fit.

The back protector must also be suitable for the rider's torso length, and any outer jacket must meet the appropriate compatibility requirements.

Does Every Alpinestars Tech-Air System Use the Same Size Chart?

No. Alpinestars manufactures several different motorcycle airbag systems, including the Tech-Air 3 V2, Tech-Air 5, Tech-Air 5 Plasma, Tech-Air 7X and Tech-Air 10.

These systems have different designs, protective coverage and intended uses. They may also have different sizing and garment compatibility requirements.

The measurements on this page specifically cover the Tech-Air 3 V2 family, including the men's and Stella women's versions.

For another Tech-Air model, always use the size chart and instructions supplied with that particular system.
