Alpinestars Leather Race Suit Size Guide

Not sure what size Alpinestars leather race suit you need? Measure your chest, waist and height, then compare your measurements with the size charts below. For women's Stella suits, also check your bust and hip measurements.

This guide covers Alpinestars one-piece and two-piece leather motorcycle race suits, including the GP Force, GP-R7, GP Plus V4 Sprint, Missile and Stella ranges.

Important: A motorcycle race suit needs to fit your whole body, not just your chest. The charts below use Alpinestars' published UK body measurements as a starting point. Individual models may have different cuts and size availability, so always check the particular suit before ordering.

Alpinestars Men's Leather Race Suit Size Chart

Alpinestars men's leather racing suits generally use European sizes such as 48, 50, 52 and 54.

The chart below shows the manufacturer's body measurements for each EU size, including chest, waist and height.

EU Suit Size Body Measurements
44 Chest: 86–90 cm
Waist: 72–76 cm
Height: 164–167 cm
46 Chest: 90–94 cm
Waist: 76–80 cm
Height: 168–171 cm
48 Chest: 94–98 cm
Waist: 80–84 cm
Height: 172–175 cm
50 Chest: 98–102 cm
Waist: 84–88 cm
Height: 176–179 cm

Waist: 88–92 cm
Height: 180–183 cm
54 Chest: 106–110 cm
Waist: 92–96 cm
Height: 184–187 cm
56 Chest: 110–114 cm
Waist: 96–100 cm
Height: 188–191 cm
58 Chest: 114–118 cm

Height: 192–195 cm
62 Chest: 122–126 cm
Waist: 108–112 cm
Height: 196–199 cm

Example: If your chest measures 100 cm, your waist measures 86 cm and you're approximately 178 cm tall, EU 50 is the starting size indicated by the chart.

Please note: These are the manufacturer's general body measurements, not the dimensions of the race suit. Not every Alpinestars suit is manufactured in every size shown, and individual race-fit patterns may vary.

If your chest measurement points to one size but your height or waist points to another, don't simply choose the larger size without checking the full fit.

Alpinestars Stella Women's Leather Race Suit Size Chart

Alpinestars Stella leather race suits are designed specifically for women riders, with their own sizing measurements.

This chart covers the general body measurements used for Stella motorcycle clothing, including the Stella GP Plus and Stella GP-R7 race suit ranges.

46 Bust: 103–108 cm

50 Bust: 113–118 cm
Waist: 93–98 cm
Hips: 117–122 cm
Height: 185–188 cm

Example: If your bust measures 96 cm, your waist 76 cm and your hips 100 cm, the chart suggests EU 42 as a starting point.

Women's race suits need to fit correctly around the bust, waist, hips and through the body. If your measurements fall across different sizes, try the neighbouring sizes before making a decision.

Not every Stella race suit is manufactured in every size shown.

How to Measure Yourself for an Alpinestars Race Suit

You'll need a flexible tape measure and, ideally, someone to help you take the measurements.

  1. Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal under your arms.
  2. Bust: For Stella suits, measure around the fullest part of your bust.
  3. Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, approximately in line with your belly button.
  4. Hips: For Stella suits, measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom.
  5. Height: Stand against a wall without shoes and measure from the floor to the top of your head.
  6. Inside leg: Measure from your crotch towards your ankle to help assess whether the suit's leg length will be suitable.

Keep the tape comfortably snug without pulling it tight. Measure twice to make sure you've got it right.

Use these measurements to find your starting size, but remember that body proportions and the suit's cut are just as important.

How Should an Alpinestars Leather Race Suit Fit?

An Alpinestars leather race suit should fit closely without restricting your breathing, circulation or movement.

Race suits are designed to be worn in a motorcycle riding position, with your knees bent, arms extended and your upper body leaning forward.

It's normal for a one-piece race suit to feel different when standing upright compared with sitting on a sports bike.

When trying on your suit, check that:

  • The shoulders and chest fit securely without painful pressure.
  • The elbow and knee protectors remain correctly positioned.
  • The waist and hips are comfortable when seated.
  • The suit doesn't pull excessively through the crotch or shoulders when leaning forward.
  • The sleeves and legs provide suitable coverage in your riding position.
  • You can move your arms and legs freely enough to operate the motorcycle safely.
  • The suit doesn't have excessive loose material that could allow the armour to move out of position.

The most important test is how the suit fits when you're sitting on the motorcycle. A suit that feels comfortable standing upright may be unsuitable when you're crouched over the handlebars.

Does Height Matter When Choosing a Leather Race Suit?

Yes. Height and body proportions are particularly important when choosing a one-piece leather race suit.

Two riders might have the same chest and waist measurements but very different torso or leg lengths.

If a suit is too short through the body, it can pull uncomfortably around the crotch and shoulders when you're seated. If it's too long, excessive material can bunch around the waist, arms or knees.

Use the height measurements in the charts as a starting reference, but don't rely on height alone when choosing a size.

If your chest, waist and height point to different sizes, it's worth getting fitting advice before ordering.

Do Alpinestars One-Piece and Two-Piece Race Suits Fit Differently?

Alpinestars produces both one-piece and two-piece leather motorcycle suits.

A one-piece suit joins the jacket and trousers into one garment. This makes the overall body length particularly important, as the chest, waist, hips, shoulders and legs must all fit correctly together.

A two-piece suit consists of a matching jacket and trousers connected by a zip. The upper and lower sections still need to fit correctly, and the connecting zip must be properly secured.

Both styles use European clothing sizes, but you shouldn't assume a particular size will feel identical between different models.

Always check the individual suit's sizing information and try it on in your normal riding position.

Do You Need a Different Suit Size for a Tech-Air Airbag?

Some Alpinestars leather race suits are designed to work with compatible Tech-Air electronic airbag systems.

If you plan to use an airbag, check the compatibility of your exact suit and Tech-Air model before choosing a size.

The airbag system must fit your body correctly, and the suit must provide the clearance required by the manufacturer's instructions.

Don't automatically order a larger race suit to make room for an airbag. Equally, don't assume that a suit fitting correctly without an airbag will also fit correctly with one installed.

Where possible, try the suit on while wearing the actual Tech-Air system and base layers you intend to use.

For any airbag-compatible race suit, the specific manufacturer's fitting and deployment-clearance instructions take precedence over general sizing advice.

Will an Alpinestars Leather Race Suit Stretch?

Leather race suits can soften and ease slightly with use, particularly around areas that move frequently.

However, you shouldn't rely on a suit stretching enough to correct an unsuitable size.

A suit that's painfully tight around your shoulders, chest, hips or crotch is unlikely to become a good fit simply through regular use.

Equally, a race suit with excessive loose material won't provide the secure fit you need for correctly positioned protective armour.

Choose the size that fits securely and allows suitable movement from the outset.
