Scorpion motorcycle helmets have a habit of packing plenty of useful features into prices that remain somewhere within the boundaries of normal human finance.

The range covers everyday full-face helmets, touring models, flip-front helmets, adventure helmets and open-face designs, with everything from straightforward polycarbonate shells to premium composite and carbon-fibre options.

Some Scorpion helmets are pleasantly simple. Others appear to contain more adjustment than the average family car.

The important bit is choosing the one that fits your head, suits your riding and contains features you will genuinely use.

Scorpion Full-Face Motorcycle Helmets

Scorpion full-face motorcycle helmets cover everyday road riding, commuting, touring and sports-bike use.

At the more affordable end, you will find straightforward helmets built around polycarbonate shells, removable interiors and effective ventilation. Move further up the range and you begin to see composite or carbon-fibre construction, internal sun visors, AirFit® cheek-pad adjustment, advanced visor systems and more touring-focused interiors.

Not everybody needs the dearest full-face helmet in the range.

A rider travelling thousands of miles every year may appreciate better noise control, a more refined interior and additional adjustment. Somebody looking for a dependable helmet for everyday riding may be perfectly well served by one of the simpler models.

There is no point paying for seventeen clever features if the only one you ever use is the chin strap.

Scorpion Flip-Front Helmets

Scorpion flip-front motorcycle helmets are aimed at riders who value convenience without wanting to give up the coverage of a full-face design.

Depending on the model, the chin section may lift conventionally or rotate further towards the back of the helmet. This can make it easier to speak to someone, take a drink or get a bit of air without removing the whole helmet.

Selected Scorpion flip-front helmets carry P/J homologation. Where stated, this means the helmet has been approved for use with the chin bar in both the closed and open positions.

Do not simply assume every flip-front can legally or safely be ridden with the chin bar raised. Check the individual helmet specification.

Flip-front helmets are particularly popular with touring riders, commuters, instructors and anyone who is fed up with removing a helmet every time somebody asks a question at a petrol station.

Scorpion Adventure Helmets

Scorpion adventure helmets combine the coverage of a full-face helmet with features such as a peak, broad eyeport and, on selected models, the ability to use suitable goggles.

Some adventure models use a fixed chin bar, while others use a flip-front arrangement. That gives riders a choice between the simplicity of a conventional full-face design and the added convenience of a modular helmet.

A removable or adjustable peak can help with low sun, glare and off-road riding. It can also react differently depending on your motorcycle screen, height, riding position and airflow around the bike.

A peak that behaves perfectly on one motorcycle may become considerably more enthusiastic on another.

Adventure styling does not automatically mean you must be crossing a desert. These helmets can work just as well for touring, commuting and ordinary road riding.

They will not, however, turn the journey across Darwen into the Dakar Rally.

Scorpion Open-Face Helmets

The Scorpion range also includes open-face motorcycle helmets for urban riding, scooters, cruisers and riders who simply prefer the more open feel.

These range from compact retro-style helmets to more practical urban designs with larger visors and internal sun shields.

Open-face helmets provide less facial coverage than full-face helmets. That is not something worth hiding behind a paragraph about freedom and the open road.

The choice comes down to the rider, the type of motorcycle and how much coverage and convenience they want.

AirFit Does Not Replace Proper Helmet Sizing

Selected Scorpion helmets use the AirFit® system.

A small pump inside the helmet inflates air bladders behind the cheek pads, allowing the rider to increase cheek pressure and fine-tune the fit. This can help reduce unwanted movement and may also improve comfort and noise control.

The important words are fine-tune.

AirFit® cannot alter the size or shape of the main EPS impact liner. It will not cure painful pressure across your forehead or temples, and it should not be used to make an oversized helmet behave as though it fits.

The pump is useful. It is not witchcraft.

Internal Sun Visors and Pinlock Preparation

Many Scorpion road helmets include a SpeedView™ retractable internal sun visor.

This can be lowered when the sun makes one of its occasional surprise appearances without stopping to replace the main visor.

Pinlock® preparation is also available across much of the range. Some helmets include the Pinlock® anti-fog insert in the box, while others are merely prepared for one.

Always check the individual product description rather than assuming one is included because another Scorpion helmet had one.

A properly fitted Pinlock® insert can make a substantial difference in cold and damp weather. That is particularly useful in Britain, where visor mist and sideways rain regularly work together as a team.

Removable Linings and Glasses-Friendly Interiors

Depending on the model, Scorpion helmets use different versions of the KwikWick® removable and washable interior.

Being able to remove the lining for cleaning is useful after warm rides, long tours or several months of pretending your helmet does not smell.

Selected models also use KwikFit™ cheek pads with channels intended to make wearing glasses more comfortable.

That does not guarantee that every frame will fit every rider. Thick arms, unusual frame shapes and the position of your ears can all affect comfort.

Bring your normal glasses or sunglasses when trying a helmet on. Discovering that the arms are slowly trying to drill into your head is best done in the shop rather than halfway up the motorway.

Scorpion Helmets and Intercoms

Many Scorpion helmets have speaker recesses or dedicated provision for the EXO-COM communication system. Other universal motorcycle intercoms may also fit, depending on the helmet and mounting arrangement.

Intercom ready means the helmet has been designed to accommodate a suitable communication system.

It does not mean somebody has hidden a Bluetooth unit inside the box as a pleasant surprise.

Speaker size, speaker position, microphone type and the space around your ears can all affect comfort. We can help check the arrangement before fitting an intercom to a new helmet.

Polycarbonate, Composite or Carbon?

Scorpion uses several different shell constructions across the range.

More affordable models commonly use advanced polycarbonate shells. Further up the range, Scorpion offers TCT Ultra™ composite construction and carbon-fibre versions.

Carbon helmets are generally positioned as the lighter, more premium option. Composite helmets balance different materials and construction techniques, while polycarbonate models make modern helmet features available at a more accessible price.

None of those materials automatically makes a helmet right for your head.

Weight, balance, internal shape, ventilation and the way the helmet behaves in the airflow all matter. A cheaper helmet that fits correctly is a far better purchase than an expensive carbon helmet that creates a pressure point after ten minutes.

ECE 22.06 and Helmet Approval

Current Scorpion road helmet models include designs approved to the ECE 22.06 motorcycle helmet standard.

Always check the individual product listing and the approval label fitted to the helmet, particularly when buying for a specific form of racing or competition.

ECE approval tells you that the helmet has met the relevant testing requirements. It does not tell you whether the helmet fits your particular head properly.

That part still requires putting it on.

Choosing the Right Scorpion Helmet

Start with your head measurement, but do not treat the size chart as the final answer.

Your head has a shape as well as a circumference. Two people with exactly the same measurement may find the same helmet fits completely differently.

A correctly fitting helmet should feel evenly snug around the whole head. It should not move independently when you turn it from side to side, but it should not cause sharp pressure, pain or numbness either.

Firm cheek pressure is normal in a new full-face helmet. A headache developing across the forehead is not.
