Rukka motorcycle clothing is not the cheap end of the rail. Let’s get that out of the way.

It is premium Finnish motorcycle gear aimed at riders who cover proper miles, ride in less-than-perfect weather and want clothing built around protection, comfort and keeping the rain where it belongs: on the outside.

Rukka is particularly well known for its touring jackets and trousers, with many models using GORE-TEX® waterproof construction, abrasion-resistant materials and D3O® armour.

The exact specification varies between products, so not every Rukka suit is simply the same thing with a different price tag sewn into the collar.

Rukka Motorcycle Jackets & Trousers

The Rukka range covers everything from serious waterproof touring suits to lighter, highly ventilated motorcycle clothing for warmer riding.

Some riders want maximum weather protection for long-distance touring and year-round use. Others want something lighter that lets a decent amount of air through when Britain briefly remembers what summer is.

Selected Rukka motorcycle trousers are available in different leg lengths, while the range also includes clothing specifically designed for women riders.

That gives us a much better chance of finding something that fits properly rather than pretending the armour is “near enough” when it is actually halfway down your shin.

Most of it is, naturally, available in several thrilling variations of black.

Made for Proper Miles

Rukka motorcycle gear is aimed at riders who spend serious time on the bike.

Depending on the model, features may include laminated waterproof construction, removable thermal linings, adjustable ventilation, stretch panels, connecting zips, storm collars and reinforced impact areas.

The idea is not to add endless features purely to make the label longer. The useful bits are there to help keep you comfortable, protected and able to concentrate on riding rather than wondering which part of your clothing has started leaking.

That does not mean everybody needs the most expensive Rukka suit in the building.

The right choice depends on how often you ride, the weather you ride in and whether you are crossing countries or mainly crossing Darwen.

More Than Waterproof Touring Suits

Rukka is best known for motorcycle jackets and trousers, but the range goes much further than that.

Alongside the main suits, you will also find Rukka gloves, thermal layers, down jackets, base layers, braces, high-visibility clothing, replacement D3O® armour and other useful accessories.

These layers and accessories can make a substantial difference to comfort, particularly when riding in cold or changeable weather.

A good outer suit can only do so much if everything underneath it is damp, bulky or trying to work its way up your back.

Waterproof Does Not Mean Identical

It is easy to look at two black Rukka jackets and assume they are more or less the same.

They are not.

Different models use different materials, waterproof constructions, ventilation systems, armour and linings. Some are aimed firmly at cold-weather touring, while others are designed to provide more airflow during warmer riding.

There can also be important differences in fit, length and adjustment.

That is why choosing Rukka gear should involve more than simply finding your usual size and clicking the first jacket that appears.

Proper Fit Still Matters

Rukka motorcycle clothing is an investment, so getting the fit right matters.

A top-end waterproof jacket is not much use if it is too loose to hold the armour in place. Likewise, trousers need to put the knee and hip protection over the parts of you they are supposed to protect.

Armour waving at your knee from somewhere near your shin is not especially helpful.

The jacket and trousers should also work together when you move into a riding position. Something that feels fine while standing upright in front of a mirror may behave very differently once you bend your arms and knees.

At RaceLeathers, we can help check:

  • The overall jacket and trouser fit
  • Where the shoulder, elbow, back, hip and knee armour sits
  • Whether the clothing allows proper movement
  • How the jacket and trousers overlap and connect
  • Which Rukka model best suits your type of riding
  • Whether you genuinely need the more expensive option

Sometimes spending more gives you exactly the features you need. Sometimes it simply gives you features you will never use.

There is no prize for leaving with the biggest receipt.

Found It Cheaper? Tell Us

We always price match.

What we do not have is some all-seeing bit of software watching every motorcycle shop in Britain and sounding an alarm whenever somebody changes a price by a tenner.

If you find the same Rukka item cheaper elsewhere, let us know.

We cannot react to a price we do not know about, but once you tell us, we can match it.

So before assuming somebody else is cheaper, give us a call on 01254 704000 or contact RaceLeathers.

You can still get the competitive price, with the added benefit of proper fitting advice from people who actually know the gear.

Choosing the Right Rukka Motorcycle Gear

The best Rukka gear for you depends on how and when you ride.

A year-round commuter may need strong waterproofing, warmth and high visibility. A long-distance tourer may prioritise comfort, ventilation and storage. Someone mainly riding in summer may be better suited to one of the lighter or more ventilated options.

It is also worth thinking about what you already own.

Your boots need to work with the trousers, your gloves need to fit properly over or under the cuffs and your base layers should help the suit work rather than turning you into an overstuffed parcel.

We can explain the differences between the Rukka ranges, help position the armour correctly and check how the jacket and trousers work together in a riding position.
